How to Register for Export
To get set up for export payments, you (not us) need to register with your energy supplier using details from your handover pack: MCS Certificate + G98/G99 Approval. Apply directly via your supplier’s Smart Export Guarantee (links provided). They’ll issue an export MPAN and confirm once your tariff is active (usually within 4 weeks). Payments are backdated from your first meter readings, so you won’t lose out.
Getting registered for export is one of the key processes you need to do, unfortunately we cannot do this for you as we are not the account holders.
To get registered for Export you will need 2 key bits of information from your handover pack:
- MCS Certificate
- G98/G99 Approval
You will then need to contact your current energy provider, to tell them. We've included the most common links below to help!

They will then assign you an export MPAN number and start setting up your export tariff. Your energy provider will contact you to let you know once this has been set up, you do not need to do anything else (unless they require any further evidence).
The lead times do vary between energy providers, but this process is usually complete within 4 weeks.
Rest assured, they work from the meter readings you provide on the application so they will not miss out on any payments.
An Important Note About Scottish Power Energy Networks
We will request your MPAN number when we submit the commissioning documents post installation. They advise 8-12 weeks due to the various checks they need to do, but it’s usually much quicker.
Once they have processed the application, SP Energy Networks will send you your MPAN directly via email and request that you register payment details for your export payments.
