How to Monitor Your Solar (GivEnergy, Tesla & SigEnergy Apps)
Monitoring your solar system is simple with the GivEnergy, Tesla and SigEnergy apps. This guide shows you how to check your solar generation, home energy use, battery charge and grid import/export. Plus where to find key settings like battery reserve, time-based control and backup modes. Follow our daily and monthly routines to keep your system running smoothly and maximise savings.
Monitoring your solar and battery system is the best way to make sure everything is working as it should and to understand how much you’re saving. Whether you have GivEnergy, Tesla Powerwall, or SigEnergy, the apps all show the same essentials:
-
How much solar you’re generating ☀️
-
How much your home is using 🏡
-
How much energy is stored in your battery 🔋
-
How much you’re importing or exporting to the grid ⚡
Quick Daily Check (applies to all systems)
-
Open the app → go to the Dashboard / Home screen.
-
Check: Solar generation, Home consumption, Battery % (state of charge), Import/Export.
-
Confirm the system mode (Self-Use / Backup / Time-Based / Auto).
-
Look for any alerts or warnings.
If something looks unusual (e.g. very low solar on a sunny day, or battery not charging), take a screenshot and contact us.
GivEnergy App
Dashboard:
-
Shows live graph of generation, home demand, battery charge and export.
History:
-
Switch between Day / Week / Month to see trends.
Settings:
-
Battery Reserve – set the % to keep back for backup power.
-
Charge Mode – choose Solar Only, or Solar + Grid if you want grid charging.
-
Discharge Power – adjust how quickly the battery can release energy.
Tip: If you’re on a smart tariff, match your battery charging to off-peak hours for the biggest savings.
Tesla Powerwall App
Energy Overview:
-
Simple live flow showing Solar, Powerwall, Home and Grid.
Activity & Insights:
-
Track daily/weekly/monthly energy use, self-sufficiency % and costs saved.
Settings:
-
Backup Reserve – choose how much to keep in the Powerwall for outages.
-
Self-Powered or Time-Based Control – maximise solar use or optimise around your tariff.
-
Grid Charging – may be restricted by installer or your energy provider.
Tip: If you’re on Time-of-Use tariffs, make sure the app’s tariff schedule matches your actual plan.
SigEnergy (SigenStor / mySigen App)
Dashboard:
-
Live flows of solar generation, battery, home demand and grid.
-
Check the Gateway connection status (this controls monitoring and backup).
History / Analytics:
-
Daily and monthly production vs. consumption.
-
AI optimisation notes if enabled.
Settings:
-
Backup / EPS Reserve – set how much is saved for outage protection.
-
Outage behaviour – confirm backup mode is enabled if you have EPS.
Tip: Always check the Gateway is online — if it’s offline, monitoring and backup may not work.
Common Troubleshooting
-
App shows “offline” → Check your home Wi-Fi and the inverter/gateway lights. Reboot if safe.
-
Battery % not changing → Check Reserve settings and confirm Grid Charging isn’t restricted.
-
Solar looks too low → Compare with weather conditions. If it’s sunny but output is low, contact us with a screenshot.
-
Export doesn’t match your bill → This is usually clamp placement vs. smart meter readings. Contact us if the numbers seem far apart.
Best Practice Monitoring Routine
-
Daily: Quick dashboard check.
-
Weekly: Review 7-day trends.
-
Monthly: Record/export monthly figures (handy for SEG).
-
Annually: Arrange a system health check with us.
✅ Tip from Apex Doma: Save a monthly screenshot of your production and export — it’s the easiest way to keep track for SEG payments and gives you proof if you ever need it.
